India’s energy sector serves as the prime mover of economic growth and remains central to realising the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. As India’s largest integrated power utility, NTPC plays a pivotal role in delivering reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity while transitioning towards a low-carbon energy mix.
In line with India’s commitments under the Paris Agreement and its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), increasing the share of non-fossil fuel-based generation remains a strategic priority. The National Electricity Plan (NEP) 2022–32 targets approximately 500 GW of non-fossil installed capacity by 2029–30, with peak demand projected to reach 366.4 GW by 2031–32. NTPC is aligned with these national goals, scaling its capacity addition targets from 130 GW to 149 GW by 2032 and further to 244 GW by 2047, supported by expansion across thermal, hydro, renewable, nuclear, green hydrogen and energy storage initiatives.
As generation capacity expands and renewable integration accelerates, NTPC’s projects increasingly require advanced and emerging technologies to ensure efficiency, emissions control, grid stability and lifecycle optimisation. With rising infrastructure demand and technological complexity, there is a strategic need to strengthen indigenous manufacturing capabilities, reduce import dependency and secure resilient supply chains.
Led by NTPC, this Vendor Development Session focuses on advancing Make in India by developing local capacities across key power generation equipment, systems and components relevant to present and future projects—supporting efficient, sustainable and future-ready power generation in India.
