Vendor Development Session – Make in India for Power Generation Hydro

Date: Saturday, 21 March 2026
Location: Hall Mogra AB, 4F, (404 A+B)
Time: 1430-1800

India’s energy sector, with an installed capacity of 520.51 GW, forms the backbone of economic growth and is central to meeting rising power demand projected to increase fourfold by 2047. As the country accelerates its transition towards sustainable, non-fossil fuel sources, hydropower plays a critical role by providing flexible, dispatchable and clean energy essential for balancing the intermittency of solar and wind generation.

NHPC, India’s premier hydropower development organisation, has the capability to undertake hydro projects from conceptualisation to commissioning. With a total installed capacity of 8,832.90 MW—including 8,271.20 MW from hydro—NHPC contributes approximately 16.24% of India’s total installed hydro capacity. The company is currently developing over 9,204 MW under active construction, 7,666 MW under clearance and 10,830 MW under survey and investigation, with long-term plans to reach over 23 GW by 2032 and 50 GW by 2047 across hydro, solar, wind and green hydrogen.

Aligned with the Government of India’s Public Procurement Policy – Make in India (PPP-MII), NHPC is strengthening indigenous manufacturing and supplier capabilities to support its ambitious expansion targets. With large-scale hydro capacity addition underway, there is a strategic need to enhance domestic vendor ecosystems to ensure reliable, sustainable and technologically advanced power generation infrastructure.

This Vendor Development Session highlights opportunities across Main Power Plant Systems, Control & Instrumentation and Electrical & Mechanical Systems.

Priority systems and components include:

Main Power Plant Systems:
Hydro Turbines (Kaplan, Francis, Pelton) | Synchronous Generators | Main Inlet Valves (Butterfly/Spherical) | Governing Systems with Digital Controllers | Static Excitation Systems | Generator Step-up & Auxiliary Transformers | GIS Systems | XLPE Cables (220kV/400kV) | SCADA & Monitoring Systems | Protection & Relaying Systems | MV & LV Switchgear | DG Sets | EOT Cranes | Cooling & Drainage Systems | HVAC Systems | Fire Fighting Systems | Compressed Air Systems | Oil Handling Systems | Elevator Systems

Control & Instrumentation:
Vibration Monitoring Systems | Air Gap Monitoring Systems (AGMS) | Relay Testing Kits | Dissolved Gas Analysers (DGA) | PLC & Network Components | Numeric Relays | Partial Discharge Monitoring | High Voltage Test Kits | Dew Point Meters | Contact Resistance Measurement Kits

Electrical & Mechanical Systems:
RIP/RIS Transformer Bushings | CRNGO/CRGO Steel Laminations | Steel Plates (>150mm) | Forged Generator Shafts (>50T) | Static Frequency Converters (SFC) | Variable Speed Drives | Hydraulic Cylinders for Radial Gates

Bringing together NHPC, policymakers, OEMs and domestic manufacturers, this session provides a structured platform for industry alignment—supporting localisation, reducing import dependency and enabling the next phase of India’s hydro power expansion.
