Dr. Subir Sen is a dynamic, dedicated and result-oriented professional in the Power sector focusing towards Clean energy transition and Sustainability along with policy and regulatory advocacy in a collaborative approach. He has over 35 years of experience in various capacities at senior level positions in premier Central Public Sector Enterprises in power sector viz. POWERGRID and NTPC. Combined an in depth technical, analytical, operational, commercial, organisational, regulatory, project management and capacity building skills in Transmission & Distribution.

Dr. Sen is one of the architect of Indian robust & reliable National Grid through regional grid interconnections, development of Cross-border interconnections, power market, and establishment of Green Energy Corridors comprising Transmission lines, Substations, RE integration, control infrastructures like REMCs, FACTS devices and Energy Storage System facilitating integration of large scale Renewable capacity in a seamless manner. Introduced new technologies like 765kV, 1200kV AC, 800kV, 320kV HVDC, GIS, Digital Substations, Hybrid GIS, WAMS, STATCOM, Series Reactor, Drone based monitoring, EV Charging system, Smart Grid in distribution etc., Cybersecurity in Transmission. Introduced Smart Grid Technologies in Distribution. Formulated plan for One Sun One World One Grid facilitating rapid energy transition. Provided expert services for renewable capacity development including connectivity/General Network Access in transmission towards rapid clean energy transition.

His experience also includes Power System Simulation and analysis, preparation of cost estimates, project viability, design of equipment parameters, technical specifications, bid documents of RE transmission projects, project management and implementation, engaging with broad range of stakeholders, capacity building with special emphasis on RE integration, Electricity Act, Regulations, demonstration projects.

Dr. Sen received his B.E and M.E in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University and IISc respectively. He received his PhD in Power System from IIT Delhi. He also holds Advanced Diploma in Management and Energy Manager & Energy Auditors certificates. He is a fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) and member of the IEEE, CIGRE.

Dr. Sen is co-inventor of five patents in the field of renewable energy, O&M and energy efficiency. Published more than 100 technical papers in various conferences/journals. Co-authored four books on Renewable Technologies, Smart Grid, Next generation Unit Commitment, FACTs applications. Co-guided number of dissertations at graduate, post graduate and Ph.D levels in the field of power system. He also served as Adjunct faculty at IIT Kanpur in 2013-14. Known for quick decision making and working together with various Industry players, stakeholders, policy makers, regulators and academics to achieve sustainability and excellence. In May’25, he retired as Executive Director (Engineering-HVDC, Technology Development & Smart Grid, Survey) from POWERGRID. His research interest includes Power System modelling, studies, planning, technology innovation and operation & maintenance of Transmission & Distribution assets.
