Girish Sethi is Senior Director of the Energy Program at TERI, having more than 40 years of experience in the field of energy, environment and sustainable development. His direct responsibilities at TERI include providing strategic direction and coordinating the activities related to industrial energy efficiency, renewable energy, fuels and electricity including demand side management. He is presently coordinating a new initiative at TERI that looks at options for deep de-carbonization in harder-to-abate industrial sectors like steel and cement in the longer term, including options for use of hydrogen. He has represented TERI in various national and international forums on different aspects related to energy and environment. Some of the key assignments/ projects where he was/ is associated with include the following:
• Energy efficiency potential in India – GIZ/ BEE supported project that assessed the potential across different end use segments/ sectors
• World Bank supported study on industry decarbonization with a focus on six large energy intensive sectors.
• Energy transition and industry decarbonization – focus on steel and cement sectors – multi-year/ multi-dimensional program supported by various philanthropic organizations
• Scaling-up energy efficiency through ESCO route
• Promoting India-Japan Cooperation in the energy sector through collaboration with various Japanese organizations like, NEDO, IGES, ECCJ, IEEJ etc.
• Supporting the establishment of TERI’s Institute of Energy Transition at Hyderabad
• TERI-SDC Partnership Project in the MSME sector focusing on energy efficiency
• Energy conservation guidelines for industries (Large industries and MSME sector)
• Financing energy efficiency in MSMEs: World Bank/ SIDBI/ BEE-GEF projects.
